Everyone must have heard that we need to detox our body from time to time after all the dumping we do to our poor body. Detoxification flushes out the toxins from our body in order to have a long running good health.
First, we need to understand our various body organs doing different jobs round the clock. Our kidneys, liver and intestines are the real superstars in the process of detoxification.
There are so many “detox diets” running these days. But do these fad detox diets actually work?
The answer is a big NO. While the fancy detox diets are full of green juices and smoothies, they starve us and deprive us of balanced diet. We cant detox our body artificially. Its a myth and corporate drama. But we can detox naturally by certain dietary and lifestyle modifications in a healthy and sustainable way.
Set a time-based eating pattern where one can eat with 8 hours of window during the day and fast for 16 hours. The time interval of eating and fasting varies from one individual to the other. But the important key here is not starving oneself but to find the right balance.
adding fresh fruits and vegetables, also fermented foods like curd, idly, dokla, kanji(congee), kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha etc. Helps with formation of good gut bacterial flora which improves the gut health and promotes healthy detoxification.
Fat soluble vitamins comes from fats. Vitamins A, D, E and K are essential for the body but when consumed in large quantities these get stored in the liver for a longer time leading to toxicity. Eating a balanced diet is the key.
Its important to make sure to add plant based foods if one is a meat lover. Plant based diets helps the gut flora to increase and helps in digestion of heavy meats which are toxic for the liver. It helps relaxing liver and eliminate excess cholesterol and toxins from the body. So, focus on having a proper balanced ratio of plant based and animal food sources.
Saying no to vegetable oils, white sugar, refined flour, other highly processed food might be hard but your body will thank you later for the sacrifice. These foods are nothing but empty calories which are extra burden for the intestines and the liver which leads to various diseases like obesity, diabetes, cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases.
Its important to stay hydrated to have healthy body functions. Infused water concoctions of jeera and ajwain or any other water will keep the body hydrated. Drinking infused water throughout the day will further help the natural process of detoxification. Most importantly water allows the body’s detoxification system to remove waste from the blood.
Sleeping allows our brain to reorganize and recharge by itself, as well as remove toxins. If we are sleep deprived our body doesn’t perform the functions properly and toxins gets build up affecting the quality of our health.
Regular physical activity has shown to reduce inflammation which allows body’s detoxification system to work properly.
So, keep moving and do not lead a sedentary lifestyle.
